    November 24, 2025 — Cobia were rolling behind the boat all afternoon. The crew got a few of them in the box on free-lined live baits drifted back in the chum slick. This one came up curious, ate, and fought hard all the way to the gaff.

    November is one of those criminally underrated months in Key West. The water is still warm enough for great snapper action but cool enough that the kingfish move in tight. We had several trips this month where the rail had a king on every other line.

    The big story late in the month was cobia — on November 24 we had a school rolling behind the boat for most of the trip, and the crew put a few keepers on the deck on free-lined live baits. Blackfin tuna showed up on the deeper structure and yellowtail counts stayed high all month long. The cero mackerel bite kept getting better week after week.

    Captain's Tip

    Keep a heavy spinning rod rigged with a live bait ready in the rod holder — when cobia roll up behind the boat in November you've got about ten seconds to make it count.
